The Intermediate School at BBS covers grades 7 – 9, ending with the completion of the Brevet exams. The school follows the Lebanese curriculum in preparation for the Brevet exam. Subjects covered are Arabic, English, French (as a third language), Math, Science, History, Geography, Technology, Physical Education, Art, and Christian Studies. In grades 8 and 9 students take physics, chemistry, and biology instead of a general science class. Students supplement their learning with visits to the library, technology laboratory, and computer facilities. Promotion in cycle III requires students to achieve an overall passing average (60 or above) and to pass the three main subjects: Arabic, English, and Math. Students with academic difficulties are identified early in the school year and are given remedial work and Saturday classes. Students who fail their major subjects at the end of the school year will be required to attend summer school in these subjects.
Each section is assigned a class teacher to follow up on students’ work and disciplinary problems in conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs. Students sit for a term exam at the end of each term, in addition to continuous assessment during the term. This includes hour exams, quizzes, homework, recitations, presentations, and completion of projects.
